Most Canadians stood up to protect the most vulnerable during covid. Some putting their freedom ahead of everyone else descended on Ottawa attacking our government. Canadians still stand with the oppressed through out the world and will step up to defend and protect them. False patriots wrapped in a flag are not who Canadians are they are quiet spoken calm rational people who want freedom for everyone. Tell the CPC to stop being Republican cos players and represent all Canadians.

Your divisive comments are not the way we are going to move forward as a great nation. You’ve clearly missed the message in this brilliant essay. That’s unfortunate.

Mike good to see you joining service organizations. Don't know you, will probably never meet you. I support everyone who serves not only those in uniform. I support volunteer firefighters who put their lives on the line protecting their community, Search and Rescue groups who put their lives in danger so others may live. I have worked with police and aid agency's on the streets of Vancouver and Victoria doing drug and alcohol outreach. I have saved lives and sadly had to watch others die. I have known and respected many veterans from WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan. I have worked doing street outreach with off duty JTF2 members. I have also met members who are pricks. My comments above were also an echo of Erin's overall article that Canadians need to work together including in Parliament, constant name calling doesn't help or serve Canadians.

An outstanding tribute to the brave and selfless Canadians who came before us to make Canada great. The last paragraph is a call to action “Our tribute to them must be our embrace of freedom by mobilizing it to serve the higher purpose of our community and our country. God Bless Canada.”

To that end - I have recently joined my local Legion and the Knights of Columbus, two of many organizations that do great work in our communities. Let’s all try to strive to serve the higher purpose of our community in any effort we can big or small. 🇨🇦

A wonderfully crafted essay, Parliament will miss you, Sir.

My sea time was ending as yours started, so I sincerely regret I missed having you sail with me in an embarked HELAIRDET (Helicopter Air Detachment for the uninitiated). Your message as to the need to keep engaged is a vital one that I see also in the several military and civic groups with which I remain involved. Apologies in advance for maybe climbing on a soapbox, but in this so-called Information Age it can be difficult getting the word out, so let me take advantage of this opportunity.... A couple of digital things I’m pursuing that might be of interest to your readers are: first, I’ve started an InstaGram account looking at things I encounter in my travels these days that touch upon my time in the RCN @Canadian_Naval_Memories; and second, I’ve written a series of articles pertaining to the Navy for Canadian Encyclopedia on-line (I checked out the Sea King piece with guys I did have the pleasure of sailing with): https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/author/richard-gimblett
